The GOLD prefix was released on 1 February 2024 to mark the Federal Territories' 50th (Golden Jubilee) anniversary. The auction pulled in RM17.24 million from over 23,000 bidders, and GOLD 1 was secured by DYMM Sultan Ibrahim — the reigning Yang di-Pertuan Agong — for RM1.5 million, the highest bid ever paid for a Malaysian plate. Unsold running numbers were later offered at RM510 each at JPJ Putrajaya and state HQs.
